AKF Introduces BERDO 2.0 Emissions Penalty Calculator

Boston’s Building Energy and Reporting Disclosure Ordinance (BERDO) 2.0 is a groundbreaking policy that requires all Boston buildings over 20,000 SF to meet increasingly stringent carbon emissions standards over time, ramping down to carbon neutrality by the year 2050.

To help building owners understand the implications of BERDO 2.0 and evaluate alternative strategies/scenarios, AKF developed a fully-functional web-based tool that allows the user to input annual utility information and building characteristics to generate emissions thresholds and resulting estimated penalties.

The BERDO 2.0 Calculator can be accessed here.

Please Note:

Factors for 2022 through 2050 have been taken from the Boston Performance Standard Technical Methods report and used to project anticipated carbon emissions for each year. Emissions factors reflect projected electric grid decarbonation between now and 2050.

As actual results will vary, the tool should not be relied on as specific legal or risk mitigation guidance.
