LaGuardia Airport

New Terminal B Eastern Concourse Staff Augmentation

Queens, NY

New York City is one of the most visited and beloved cities in the world. To address the aging aviation infrastructure of LaGuardia Airport (LGA), an effort was undertaken to completely modernize and redevelop LGA. The new airport will transform the existing 2.5 Million SF domestic airport into a world-class transportation hub.

The project reached a critical milestone when the new Terminal B Eastern Concourse opened in late 2018. The new concourse has best-in-class retail, food, beverage, and amenities that more than doubled the previous number of offerings, providing travelers with truly New York offerings. Upon completion of the full Terminal B, the new concourse will boast a completely innovative way of traveling from the new concourse the other via pedestrian bridges that span above the active aircraft taxi lanes.

AKF’s Commissioning augmented the Skanska/ Walsh Design Build Joint Venture Team, their sub-contractors, and The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey (PANJNY) on starting up, activating, testing, reporting, tracking, troubleshooting, and correcting issues that arose. With a focus on meeting the aggressive completion schedule, and in order to keep the airport fully operational throughout the construction and start ups, AKF had a fully dedicated team on site for the duration of project, often providing double shifts, evenings, nights, and weekends to help meet deadlines.
