Mount Sinai Tisch Cancer Center

New Cancer Center

New York, NY

Tisch Cancer Institute at Mount Sinai was established in 2008 to bring patients personalized cancer treatment plans with a scientific understanding and human compassion. Located on Mount Sinai Medical Center’s main campus on Manhattan’s Upper East Side, Tisch Cancer Institute is undergoing an expansion to bring even better care to patients with the brand new Tisch Cancer Center, currently slated to open in 2027.

AKF is providing engineering and design services for the cancer center’s 200,000 SF expansion, including the renovation, addition, and recladding of Mount Sinai’s existing Klingenstein Clinical Center. The expansion consolidates existing inpatient cancer beds and improves patient care with 80 acuity adaptable beds, an oncology care unit, apheresis, pharmacy, and other associated programming. The new facility will also humanize the cancer experience with patient amenities such as a medispa, hair salon, and destination dining.

The building addition includes a new core to connect to the existing Klingenstein Clinical Center, which has remained occupied throughout the project. All building infrastructure was phased to support occupants during construction, requiring precise phasing and project team coordination. AKF’s mechanical design includes all new air supply systems. All new electrical infrastructure is served from existing and new electrical services delivered from Con Edison. All switchgear rooms were renovated. AKF connected new systems to the existing fire alarm, medical gas, and plumbing systems to support programming.
