Student Recreation Center Enhanced Commissioning

Storrs, CT

The University of Connecticut (UConn) is a public research university that prides itself on being a hub of innovation, diversity, and student success. To meet the needs of over 30,000 students, UConn designed a new 191,000 SF Student Recreation Center on the school’s main campus in Storrs, CT.

Environmental impact was a cornerstone of the 2015 University of Connecticut Campus Master Plan, stating that future infrastructure upgrades and renovations must not only be in line with UConn’s sustainability goals, but also align with their commitment to reaching climate neutrality by 2050. To these ends, the new Student Recreation Center was designed to LEED Gold v4 and SITES Certifications, ensuring the building will be environmentally friendly and energy efficient.

AKF’s commissioning team worked closely with UConn and the design team from initial project design. The proposed commissioning process was coordinated with the project team while the Commissioning Plan (Cx Plan) was developed in tandem with the project drawings.
