New Headquarters LEED Fundamental & Enhanced Commissioning
American Water is the largest and most geographically diverse water and wastewater utility company in the United States. Serving 14 million people across 46 states, the company operates based on its purpose-driven mantra: We Keep Life Flowing.
This mantra permeates through their new headquarters in Camden, NJ. A corporate staple in the city for over 125 years, the new headquarters is helping to lead the charge in the reestablishment of The Camden waterfront to a new thriving and dynamic community. Partnering with the city, American Water hopes to turn the waterfront into a world-class destination where people can come to learn and be inspired.
The new headquarters was designed to be as environmentally friendly as possible and highlight American Water’s true passion; water. The design also included a 5-story atrium with water wall feature. These design features required extensive coordination throughout the design phases. AKF, under Liberty Property Trust’s advisement, worked closely with both the core and shell and interior architecture firms, the construction manager, the civil engineers and design engineers to ensure that all the systems were designed and operated as intended. AKF continued their involvement throughout construction and into the first year of occupancy. This allowed the commissioning team to help seamlessly integrate the American Water facilities team into the new building, as well as ensure that operation reliability and energy goals are achieved.
